Is this new? I have been forced to do this for the past 2 or 3 weeks. Is everyone getting this request for a verification code when they attempt to log in?

Have you asked American Express about it?

Under Account Services>Security and Privacy, there is an option to "Manage Two-step verification"  Try to see if it is enabled there, you can also turn it off

I've also been having the problem for ther past 2 weeks of getting a Two-step verification to my phone. My phone plan has unlimtd text, but it's just annoying. And that doesn't work for me, in "Manage Two-step verification" I only get the option to Forget Device, with my PC and Phone listed.

But I've also been having that problem with other financial sites, especially my local CU. But a part of the problem is that I live on a rural property and cellular is my best option for Internet, I have T-Mobile Home Internet. With a wired internet connection, such as cable or DSL phone line, they usually assign you a fixed IP address associated with your geographic location. With cellular internet they assign you random IP addresses from their various data centers around the country. I can tell when I run a speed test whether my IP address is from T-Mobile's data center in Dallas, Chicago, or Los Angeles. When I had Verizon's Visible service they always had me in somewhere in Kansas; i don't think I'm in Kansas anymore. Smiley Wink

Last year when I applied for a Max Cash card it went into review. When the rep called a day later, after I verified my identity she asked if I was travelling when I applied. I told her No, I was at home sitting in front of my Windows PC, and she said "well, we have your IP address as you being in Los Angeles". So, I explained the rural property & T-Mobile internet and she approved me.

And I do legal sports betting in Arizona, and their system has to verify you are physically located within the state before they allow you to place a bet. I quickly figured out using my PC doesn't cut as it uses my T-Mobile gateway router for an IP address; I have to use a mobile device that uses the GPS system to verify my location.

I recently bought an Android tablet with GPS as using my phone to type in a bunch of stuff is a pain. I'll start using my tablet to access my banks & CCs and see if that helps.
