Amex 2nd Sign up Bonus?

Since there have been reports of Amex shutting down accounts after using my points for my summer vacation, I've been weary of poking the bear. Although when a fellow forum member was approved for the Surpass card and was discussing about only having the everyday cards show up on his amex preapproval, I wanted to give it a shot. I put in all my information in a new private tab and to my surprise, a 125k offer for the Platinum showed up as well as a 90k offer for the Amex Gold (which I already own and got the same offer less than a year ago).

Screenshot 2023-06-20 at 12.25.26 PM.pngI was kind of thrown off guard since I thought Amex didn't approve for multiple sign up bonuses on the same card. The only reports I have heard is after at least 7-10 years after first approval and only if you no longer own the card. It seemed to be a thing of Amex forgetting about your previous account. I don't believe that is the case here. I thought the popup message would have come up before the APR terms page but I guess not. I didn't want to officially submit the application although it is uner the "Remember, applying has no impact on your credit score." which seems to be a popular way to apply to Amex these days.

Do you need to formally apply to show the popup message? I wanted to hear other people's thoughts on this since this seemed odd to me.

Just to be clear, I don't need nor want this card currently since I already have it but I'm curious about this for SCIENCE!

Re: Amex 2nd Sign up Bonus?

The popup to make sure you still want to continue would come after you actually submit the application.  I would click the offer terms; most likely the "if you have had or have this card" language is in there.

you would have gotten a popup like below if you weren't going to get the SUB:

it's rather bizzare you didn't, you already have a Gold card from last year? Perhaps your original gold card was with a no lifetime language offer, which means you could get a normal gold card with the lifetime language on it?

Re: Amex 2nd Sign up Bonus?

I think it's because this offer doesn't have the lifetime language if you look closely at the photo, "Welcome offer not available to applicants who have or have had this Card or the Premier Rewards Gold Card. We may also consider the number of American Express Cards you have opened and closed as well as other factors in making a decision on your welcome offer eligibility." but I'm not sure why, I got this through private browser preapproval application on this link: https://www.americanexpress.com/us/credit-cards/check-for-offers/. The only difference is I applied with another address but this address is also on my credit report for another card. Same income, same name, same social security number was used for the application.

My original offer in September of last year was through a referral but I can't seem to find whether or not it had no lifetime language on it. It's also strange since I got approved for the BCP around 6 weeks ago and it's still not reporting to the bureus.

The place where that would be is not visible in your photo.  As I mentioned in the previous post, you need to click Offer Terms (bottom right of your photo).  Regardless of language in the previous offer, the one that is in THIS offer is the one that matters.

It's quite normal for BCP to not be reporting to the credit bureaus.   In the overwhelmingly majority of cases, Amex first reports new cards after the 2nd statement closes.

Re: Amex 2nd Sign up Bonus?

Indeed, it would be in that section in a bold paragraph right under the words Offer Terms.  Does look like one of those "no lifetime language" offers.

Re: Amex 2nd Sign up Bonus?

Is it common for Amex to do stuff like this or is the preapproval page a common way to circumvent it?
