Amex 60 day CLI question

I have two Amex cards. One is >60 days the other is not.

Am I eligible for a CLI request on the first one now or do I have to wait for the second was is >60 days?

Re: Amex 60 day CLI question

You are eligible for the first one now but I believe you will need to wait 6 months before you can request a CLI on either card after that.

see I think the new approval resets your 61 day CLI.

Same goes for if you are eligible for a CLI and you apply for a new card before doing the CLI you then can't do CLI, but if you do CLI, then you can apply for a new card and not be effected... they have a weird and smart system all at the same time!

you can always try... if you don't get instant approval you pretty much know that you did it to soon and you just got back and do it again once your other card crosses the 61 days.

Re: Amex 60 day CLI question

I'm not sure that you have to wait for the second card to reach +60 days. I would suggest calling and asking them if you are eligible

Re: Amex 60 day CLI question

Ok, I took your advice and called Amex just now.

The first rep had no clue about the 61 day rule so I asked for the supervisor. (Also, isn't Amex Customer Service supposed to be based on US? The person sounded foreign..)

The supervisor seemed to have a superficial knowledge of the 61 day rule. She said that 61 day rule applies to each card so I am eligible for a CLI request on my first card now and when my second card hits 61 days, I will be eligible for CLI on that card as well. I said what about the 6 month rule? Don't you have to wait 6 months in between each CLIs? She said there is no such policy and 61 days is the only rule they have.

I asked her if she's sure and she said yes... but I'm not sure if she knows what she was talking about.

In the end, what she told me was that each Amex card is separate and that I am eligible for CLI request on each card every 61 days. So I can get a CLI on my first card now, and get another CLI on my second card about a month from now when that one hits 61 days, and then get a second CLI on my first card again a month after that and so on. So basically with two Amex cards, I can get a CLI from Amex every month.

Well.. that doesn't sound right, does it?

Re: Amex 60 day CLI question

Amex customer service sold there US based call centers in AZ to Discover (kidding, but Discover is in AZ and Amex doesn't seem to be anymore!)

They have gone down hill faster then the Government Closed Smiley Tongue

Anyway, Id take half of it and leave the rest!

we know for SURE amex cards do not each operate seperately.

No, that isn't correct. The 6 month rule will apply for all of your accounts.

Re: Amex 60 day CLI question

There are a lot of knowledgeable members here on the Fico forums and I have a lot of respect for you guys. Although I don't know for sure, I'm much more inclined to believe this forum then the Amex customer service supervisor.

If it turns out to be the case that she was wrong, I think that its a terrible practice for a rep to give out wrong information as fact. Should I file a complaint against this supervisor if found false?
