So they only do A/Rs when it is triggered by something new on your credit report?
That sounds backwards--they won't know that there's something new on your report UNTIL they do an A/R and see it, right? I guess that if they get excited from that, they might keep looking until they're certain that you're not about to run up all your cards and bolt or something.
AmEx does a lot more oversight of their cards than many other lenders do.
OK there are two cases of A/R one is periodic account review to make sure your history is still worthy or maybe more worthy than before. The other type of A/R is cause by a 'trigger'. This happens when a credtor sets a certain number and type of activity on any account, i.e. increase utilization, new, accounts, collections...the type and combination canbe endless. When the creditor pays for these types of 'triggers' they don't request the A/R the A/R is automatically generated from the CRA end whenever your account sets off one of these triggered A/Rs. Barclays also goes by triggers as well as the fact they have an automatic one monthly for the free FAKO score on their website. Amex may have more triggers in place but to think they are manually going out and generating these A/Rs without having reason to would be impossible with the size of their portfolio. More activity on your crdt file means more triggers. Which is why you will see some people have weekly A/Rs when doing a lot of stuff with their credit as opposed to people who or mor or less holding the status quo getting one monthly or less.BTW Collectors use them too. Which is why you hear people compaining about them coming out of the woodwork the minute they apply for home or auto financing or just about any other new credit.
