Amex: Always PIF?

I just joined the American Express family with the "Blue" card. I was given a nice APR and 0% APR on purchases for 12 months. However, should I be taking advantage of that perk? I have heard "PIF" and "American Express" in the same sentence so many times that I begin to associate each with the other.

Should I be paying in full? I would like to get a nice CLI after 6 months.

Input appreciated. Thanks Smiley Happy

Re: Amex: Always PIF?

If you desire to take advantage of the revolving terms at 0%-

PIF if you can-

If you revolve a balance 90 days max-

BT's are not as big of a deal- but with a BT, you can''t use the card without messing up the benfit of the BT.

I could save a few $ by doing this as well- however I like having all of my CC's PIF every month - I don't have the heart to take advantage of the 0% offer.

Congrats on getting the card!

If your goal is CLI after 6 months, then yes, always PIF.  If you can wait a while for the CLI and want to carry a balance to take advantage of the 0%, it's usually advised not to carry one for more than a few months.

BTW, you don't have to wait 6 months for CLI.  You can get one after 30 days, but it's probably a good idea to give it 2-3 months at least.  After you get your first CLI, the rest are only every 6 months.

I got my first CLI on the Delta by pushing about $3K a month through the $1K card, PIFfing every week or so.  After 60 days I requested CLI to $2K and was instantly approved without even a soft pull.  Planning to ask for $5K in September.

If I were to do it all over- I would just wait for AMEX to CLI me-

I did not get a CLI until 6 months-

I don't think their auto-CLIs are that frequent, are they?

I'm still puzzled about why I got mine with no soft pull, unless pushing a lot of money through the card really does help, in spite of what I have heard from others who would know.  To be clear, they did soft me, but it wasn't until two days after my CLI request, which was instantly approved.
