Amex BCP 6% 6K limit question

I got the BCP from Amex a couple of weeks ago and was wondering if anyone knows if the 6k grocery limit is by calendar year or 1 year from signup?

Re: Amex BCP 6% 6K limit question

Yep. I'm gonna max out my $360 cash back probably in the middle of next month. I would have maxed it out way sooner if not for the 3 months of 5% on groceries on my Discover card and a couple months of 6% and 7% offers on my BBVA ClearPoints card.

Also, if the calendar year starts mid statement, you will not receive the 6% on those transactions before 1/1.  So if your statement closes 1/18, and you used your grocery for the year, the 6% will only apply ot those transactions from 1/1 to 1/18 for that statement.

So this only applies if you reach the 6K limit in the first year and then your statement closes after the first of January?

So I reach the 6K limit on Dec 13th or whatever... Then everything from the 14th to the 31rst is obviously not getting the 6%.

But what you are referring to is that I will also not get the 6% until after my current January statement closes?

At some point it starts to make your wallet too complicated. I have only 4 cards that I carry around at the moment.

Citi Rewards+ (small purchases, groceries, gas)

Chase Freedom (5% UR which trumps everything else)

Chase Hyatt (Dining, Non-Cat spend)

AMEX Green (Travel, Backup no FTF card)

My Hyatt has a fairly identical earning profile as my CSP so I can just carry that around. I get 2 qualified nights (worth 10k UR points) with every 5,000 spend so that is like adding another 2x on top of all the regular categories. The 5x of Freedom of course bests this. So long as I'm still pursuing Explorist (6/15 for 2021) it belongs top of the wallet. AMEX Green I can't really SD because sometimes I get it out for offers or if I booked something at a hotel. Between the offers and the shopping bonus points through Rakuten it feels like an essential card to carry.

So if the goal was to go 100% cash back you could probably get the mileage out of two 5% category cards (Freedom Flex, Discover) and something like a rewards+ for small purchases. If you have a 10.99 streaming service that is 20 Thank You points so almost a 2% back card.

Just food for thought.

Official travel point totals as of 10/21/24 (1,358,177 Total Points)
