@Anonymous wrote:Whether or not the BCP is worth the upgrade all depends on the category spend. Using the grocery category which is obviously the most attractive one, if you're the type of person that spends $62/wk or more on groceries it would make sense to have the BCP over the BCE. Of course the $150 bonus covers about a year and a half of the AF, so even if one came up short of the $62/wk spend they could still come out ahead for a number of years when looking at the bottom line.
Yes, but there is the additional question of upgrading vs additional app. IMO, it's better for most to app and get a much bigger bonus. We've seen this here for Plat upgrades (and I think PRG). Now if there are other factors, such as the need to get a Chase card and you are close to 5/24, then you don't want a new account, but the Amex upgrade offers are well below market price.
Absolutely, I'm not arguing that. I'm just suggesting that people should definately crunch the numbers before making any decisions be it an upgrade or straight up app for a rewards card such as this (with an AF).

No use for an AF card? Sign up bonus not worth it? etc..
Bonus is pretty small $150 amd has an AF. If you app for the BCP, you get $450 (and you can have both cards). So just a question if not having an HP and new account makes up for the $300 difference.
Yeah, and also if anyone's already had the BCP (which in my case I had..) so couldn't get a new sign up bonus on it anyway, if I recall correctly. This is just a free bonus for me.. I'm just looking at it as a spending promotion and me just upgrading my card in general. I'll probably downgrade next year like I've done in the past. lol
i did the upgrade too
I was told that i can use my BCE card until my new card arrives and receive same benefit as BCP member. Can anyone verify that?

Yes that's probably right. Anytime I product change/upgrade I've been told to use my current card till the new one comes in and any points or benefits will still count from the new card even tho I'm using the new older card.
Congrats on the upgrade. I also got the email but won't be upgrading. I rarely use my BCE as it is. I could easily hit the $1K spend in three months, but by the time the next AF comes around, I'd end up changing cards. Doesn't seem worth it for my spending habits.
I was big on my BCE when I got it, then it essentially turned into a grocery-only card for me as I can use my 2% CB general spend card for gas/everything else. I use Blispay which gives immediate statement credit, not $25 increments or whatever Amex does. Essentially I'm left with a 3% grocery card and I spend maybe $200-$250/mo on groceries. I'm not going to close the card or anything as I like the $30k limit factored into aggregate utilization, but the BCE definitely lost a lot of its luster for me inside of 6 months of getting it.

Yes, but just remember to check your rewards when they post. When I went the other way, BCP->BCE, the spend I already had put on the BCP was given the BCE rate (I had to complain and get it mostly corrected). So make sure that purchases made after the upgrade are given the right rate.

I simply don't spend enough money in the 6% category to make up for the AF.
Also, I know this sounds silly, I HATE the way the card looks. I wish they would get away from the clear look!
Exactly! I use my CSR for anything Travel/Dining related, my Citi DC for everyday use, and my Freedom for rotating categories. I have pretty much no use for my BCE anymore, other than groceries -- which is about $250 a month for me.
