I tried to backdate the Amex BCP i just received in the mail today, but apparently they won't let me. What is the exact process i should be doing to go about doing it. I used to have an Amex Green card that i was an au on with my father when i got out of high school. Is it possible to backdate to that date or did i misunderstanding the backdating process?
The key to backdating is to ask for your "member since date" to be set to when you first had a card. Don't say anything about backdating. If that doesn't work, you might need to talk to the credit reporting group at AMEX. This group might need your original card number in order to validate your original date.
Before doing any of this, you might want to check your member since date online. This date will often times be the correct backdated date while the card will be the current year.
Ahh so i noticed that my member since date on my online account says since 1995. And they are sending me an new card with that member date. What i want to make sure is if it will report to the cra with that date.

Well the only issue i may have is i no longer have my original card from when i first opened an amex account as an ACH with my father. I think that account was closed when he passed away, so am I SOL? When i log on my amex account for my newly accquired Costco and BCP it does show 1995 as my MSD tho

You're fine. I've never heard of the date in the online interface not matching what gets reported to the bureaus.
Congrats on the sweet backdate!

It will or should...just keep an eye out on your CR's
Okay thanks for the info , i shall keep my eyes peeled.
You should be fine. The first card back with Amex is often cut before they have applied the correct member since date.
I applied for three Amex cards the same week in 2010. The first card came dated 2010, the other two were backdated to 1986. All three reported as opened in 1986. I did get a nice score boost from the backdating.
