Amex Backdating Question

Ok so here's the story. My mother is one of those cash for everything people and I have been trying to get her to get a credit card for several years now. So she could feel safer not having to put her debit info out everywhere, insurance discounts, etc. She finally agreed and tried to get a secured card with capital but they declined due to her being a ghost and wanting more info that she was willing to give (copys of ssn, phone bill, etc.) I love her but she can be difficult she's very solitary. She has no file whatsoever zero info on all reports. So I decided to make her an AU on my AMEx green card. Did the standard add a au and I just recieved the card today. I opened it to check all was good. (Ill have to bring it to her this weekend she lives a couple hours away). Now I opened my amex this year and have a member date of 2010. To my shock her member date is 1984Smiley Surprised. So I call her and ask her if she ever had a amex because as far back as I can remeber she's nevered used credit and she told me she had one and canceled years ago when I was little. So to the point of the thread. When this card reports to her credit is it going to come up as a 26 year ago account? Basically is she going to go from a ghost to a great score instantly? Not that she would care but im excited for her.

Re: Amex Backdating Question

Based on everything I've read here, it looks that way. Wow, 1984!

I asked them prior to getting my Zync that if my husband added me as an AU, would the date be 1995(my original card date) or 2001 (his). They told me if he added me, it would be 2001.  I see they were wrong!

Re: Amex Backdating Question

Hey let me start by answering the question. Yes your Mom will get a 26 year history. Awesome for her. However keep in mind she will have a thin file, but who cares?! As long as she is happy and gets what she needs. As for the member since date they were probably incorrect in saying 2001. The member since date is unique to each individual as far as I know. Therefore Mommy mross is 1984 and ficonightmare is 1995, while Mr. ficonightmare is 2001. The only exceptions I know are for Corporate Cards. I was a member a few years ago and sadly they couldn't backdate my Zync for me. Just got it in October. Bummer since my AAoA took a hit.

Re: Amex Backdating Question

Yeah... it's a strange thing with Amex... I was backdated to my old boss account where I was an AU.  So basically, I have a credit file on record since I was six... Kinda of nice, really.

Just checked my husbands Corporate Green. The date on his is also 2001. He got the Green later than the Blue. So they did backdate his Corporate card.

Try giving them a call. It could also depend on the rep. you get.

Re: Amex Backdating Question

I think the issue with mine is my personal card was not before my Corporate Card. I will still try and get it backdated and check back in, thanks.
