Amex Blacklist.

I had settled three of my Amex account for less couple of months ago. ($20k, 7k, 5k) ➡️ ( $11k, $4k, $3k) .And its all been settled last month ( settled for almost half) . Before when i tried to apply for amex card the denial reason was. "We're writing to let you know we cannot approve your application at this time because American Express cancelled your previous account(s)".  But last night when i applied it says "

We are writing to let you know that, unfortunately, we cannot approve your application at this time.Reason(s) for Our Decision Your FICO? score (see below)

? And gave my my current fico score 590.

Does it mean i am not on their blacklist ? Since soft pulled my credit.
i am not worried about getting credit card till i fix my credit but was wondering if amex will let me back in.
i appreciate your feedbacks.

agreed I believe that means you're off the list but man, I don't know that you'll ever recoop that $17K payment to them (what I mean is will you ever earn back $17K in benefits from doing business with them again to offset what you gave them last month?)

Re: Amex Blacklist.

They sued me for all three accounts. Thats the reason i had to settle with them.

Re: Amex Blacklist.

If they sued you? Why would you even try again? I have been blacklisted since 2009 and they came back in 2021 stating they would let me in, if I paid what was charged off lol....I told them to pound sand and now 9 cards later...I dont need them

Re: Amex Blacklist.

I like Amex, but it'll be a cold day in hell before I would pay $17k just to have their cards in my wallet again. Too many other decent banks out there.

Re: Amex Blacklist.

@visionsdivine  they know the risk of lending money just like we know the risk of borrowing it. Amex is so full of themselves. even after being told to cut out the grudge holding by the CFPB, they are still doing it. what a joke.

try the bread financial Amex. it's 2-3% back on most things. it's not backed by the official amex, just on the network.

Marriott PR$25k | BCE $24.5K |BankAmericard Visa $25k| BOA Better Bal $17.5k |Wmt Discover $12.5k | BR Visa $17.5k | Amex Delta Gold $10k | Discover IT $10k | Paypal Extras MC $15k | Amazon Store $10k|Smile Gen $7.25k | Dillard's $10k | West Elm $4k| Express $3.05K | Mypoints.com Visa $4.5k | Freedom Visa $1k| Amex Surpass $1k

Re: Amex Blacklist.

Yes, congrats!...sounds like you are off the Blacklist..just need to get a better score to be considered for one of their cards. Time will help a lot with that and you will be back in the club again. It great that you got this behind you now.  Even if you didn't pay them back, they could still let you back in but without the settlement you worked out, there are reports that your phone might ring with AMEX calling about that past unsettled debt.  Since you settled with them...that won't happen.

to be fair...it wasnt that you paid 17k to get one of their cards.  AMEX offered a nice settlement on past debit that was owed and at the same time they are willing to try and do business with you again....if you decide to give them the business...it's your call.

There are MANY other options out there for CC spend, but it is amazing the value and draw that the AMEX brand carries.  They are very good at what they do and wield some clout in the CC world.

Congrats again on getting this settled with them and off to the next adventure! As others have posted....there is much life outside of AMEX, know your options and choose what offers the best for your needs.

Re: Amex Blacklist.

I think the more appropriate way to look at it is paying off debt the OP originally incurred. Not just paying $17k to get another Amex card.

Current active cards:
Amex - Platinum, BCP
BofA - Unlimited Cash Rewards Sig
Chase - CSR, Amazon Prime, United Explorer
Citi - Custom Cash, Costco Visa
TCL - $370k
CC utili - 2%
Experian - 818
