Amex Blue Product Change

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone here has experience with the Blue Cash and what other Amex cards it can be changed into.  For example is it eligible to be converted into the Starwood Amex ???  Not that I'm going to anytime soon, just more of a curiosity.

In my wallet: Amex Platinum NPSL, Amex Everyday Preferred $15,000, Amex Starwood $10,000, Chase Freedom Visa Signature $10,000, Chase Sapphire Preferred Visa Signature $15,000, Chase Ink Plus Visa Signature $5000 Barclaycard Arrival Plus MasterCard World Elite $10,000, Cap One Quicksilver MasterCard $6000, Citi Prestige World Elite MasterCard $10,000, Citi Forward Visa $6900, Citi Premier World Elite MasterCard $5,800, Discover IT $8500

Re: Amex Blue Product Change

Last time I asked they told me this:

Converting between cards that have no annual fee can be done anytime.

Converting to a card that has an annual fee (even if the fee is waived the first year) from a card that has no fee can only be done after you had your card for a year.

I'm fine waiting a year, just curious as to what my options are. My girlfriend already has the blue cash preferred, so I'm considering at least in the future changing the card

Re: Amex Blue Product Change

I would be very cautious about converting to Starwood.   Starpoints are valuable because they are hard to obtain and you would most likely be passing up your chance to get the signup bonus.  When the time comes, you'd be better off applying for SPG and getting the benefit of backdating and having two counts the same age as your Blue or closing the Blue and having the CL moved to your new SPG.   Just my two cents.

Can I do that, say if I apply for the SPG and get approved, I can move the balance of my blue cash to that card ???

Re: Amex Blue Product Change

That's a good idea.  I honestly had not entertained that idea since I wasn't sure if it was a wise idea to close a card

Re: Amex Blue Product Change

So I called Amex this morning to ask. The rep told me I had an offer on my account to upgrade to the Blue Sky Preferred. I asked if she was sure, since I've had the Blue Cash Everyday since March and that card carries an annual fee. She said yes, and that it would be prorated. Maybe that option is available to me since I've held an Amex account since August 2012 ???

I think the Blue for the most part has to stay in the Blue family...
