So Cheddar you are say that Amex denied you a CLI because you are being vigilant and check your reports to make sure no one has stolen your ID? I would have told him to stick that piddling 2K line so far up his you know what well never mind. What nerve.

Noooo. At least, I wouldn't think so. Hmm....

Well, if that is what they meant by "too many requests to view your credit history," then they would have to be getting that information through CS, and I'm not sure how legal that would be.

Sure, it might be within the letter of the law, since they wouldn't actually be looking at soft pulls on a report (which they're not allowed to do), but it would definitely go against the spirit of the FCRA. Congressional intent in making soft pulls not viewable by potential creditors was obviously to prevent one's requests to view one's own credit history from being used as a basis of adverse action and/or denial of new credit. I really hope that's not what they're doing.

Actually, that is EXACTLY what I'm hoping they are doing. Can you say LAW SUIT?! Finally, the "customers" get to FR Amex!

Re: Amex CLI Decline. It wasn't all good news tonight.

I have pulled CS almost every day since I got it (about 5 months) and they gave me the CLI that I asked for yesterday

The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid

Must be the two inqs, then. And I think that I have seen that terminology reported elsewhere.

I wish they'd use clear language. If they're worried about requests for credit, then they should say so, not "too many requests to view."

Unless they got tired of people saying that they had never applied for credit, and it was an illegitimate hard pull and they're disputing, and on and on. Smiley Tongue

I tend to think it refers to the two hard inquiries and that the language is sort of "dumbed down" (for lack of a better term).

I'll see how it's worded on the letter when it comes in the mail.  If the letter says "too many inquiries," as opposed to the wording the CL Specialist used, then I would say it's probably a matter of him trying to explain it using words that most people who don't hang out on the FICO Forums would understand.

Got the letter.  Quoting here:

Your American Express card member Risk Score is too high.  (See below)
Your application was processed using our American Express Cardmember Risk Score which evaluates existing card members.  The reasons you did not score well. [sic]

Your consumer credit report indicates too many requests for credit during the last six months.

--------------------

So that's that.  It's "too many requests for credit."  The "requests to view your credit history" phrasing was apparently an attempt by the credit analyst to put it in terms I could understand.

Yep.  WaMu Real Rewards for $15K and BofA Rewards Amex for $7.5K.

Well worth a $3K CLI decline from Amex. Smiley Wink

If 2 inqs on EX is a lot, I wonder how I got approved by Amex with the 47 I have on mine.

I was approved with 5 in the prior 6 months.  Approved for first CLI with 6 in the prior 6 months.  Denied for second CLI with only 2 in the last 6 months.

Who knows.
