Amex CLI Options

So I currently have the option to request a CLI on my BCE. Thing is, I have barely used that card in the past couple months. The EDP on the other hand, I have been using quite a bit since I got it a few weeks ago. Should I wait until next month and request the CLI with the EDP since I have been using the card or just do the BCE ??? Thanks all

In my wallet: Amex Platinum NPSL, Amex Everyday Preferred $15,000, Amex Starwood $10,000, Chase Freedom Visa Signature $10,000, Chase Sapphire Preferred Visa Signature $15,000, Chase Ink Plus Visa Signature $5000 Barclaycard Arrival Plus MasterCard World Elite $10,000, Cap One Quicksilver MasterCard $6000, Citi Prestige World Elite MasterCard $10,000, Citi Forward Visa $6900, Citi Premier World Elite MasterCard $5,800, Discover IT $8500

Do you want to have both cards? If not, I would pick the one you like and see if they will combine the limits. If you want to keep both, I would ask for a CLI on the BCE. If you call them to do it, just say the limit isn't high enough for your needs. That would explain the lack of usage.

Re: Amex CLI Options

I'm leaning toward closing the BCE but moving that limit onto the EDP. Just not sure whether lack of usage would factor into them approving or denying the CLI on the BCE if I chose to go that route

Re: Amex CLI Options

How long have you had the BCE?  The usual rule is no CL transfer unless the card is over a year old

Re: Amex CLI Options

Did you get a promotional offer on both the BCE and the BCP? I may end up having to do that

Re: Amex CLI Options

I just randomly app'ed last year. The EDP I applied for because I'd rather membership reward points over cash, hence why I'm leaning to close the BCE, just debating whether do CLI on it or wait for EDP next month

Re: Amex CLI Options

Moreover, I guess the data point I'm looking for is if anyone has ever been denied a CLI with Amex for not making much use of the card

I got a partial granting of the CLI, with one of the reasons why they wouldn't give the full amount being that the existing CL was hardly used.

I received the Amex BCE card about a year ago (March 2013).  My initial CL was $5K and after two CLI's the current CL is now at $24K (I did not want to exceed that CL amount, at least for now.)  The TOTAL amount I've charged so far on this card since receiving it has been LESS than $200.00.

Hope that information is useful!
