Very quickly want to make sure I'm still right on my thoughts:
1. Apply for new American Express Revolver and once approved then CLI current Amex Revolver?
I've never heard of this.
If they'll grant a CLI on an existing account, why bother with an additional card?
my case is not exactly same, but I got a CLI on BCP on 04/16 and I applied and got approved for Platinum Charge card on 4/25.

Because current account is Costco and the Blue Cash Preferred would be 100x better!
But I was thinking it was 1 CLI or new account when it comes to revolving within 6 months, but Charge vs. revolving don't count in that... Right?

Ahhh,
Hard to say. Guess it depends on where your Ex FICO is sitting, utilization, and inquiries. I've read Amex can be a little sensitive to inquiries at some odd point when calculating their internal risk score. It might be easier to call and ask for a PC, depending upon how old the Costco is.
The reason I don't get the practice is CLIs (from Amex) seem to be based upon their own internal scoring system and a soft pull from Ex. I don't know if they will use soft pulls for a new account. It would be interesting to know but I don't want or need a new account.
I love the BCP! The rest of my cards have pretty much gotten thrown under the bus in its favor. I do dislike having to push payments through, though. I let the statement cut, under the impression that the balance wouldn't immediately post and got dinged a little. ![]()
CLIs usually use the soft pull they do during account review. There are some exceptions (when you call for recon) but they are far and few between.
I believe the usual practice for existing customers approval for new cards is that they use the same soft pull (so make sure they are using the correct credit report if yours had changed recently) for approval. If approved, they do a hard pull but not sure if they compare with the soft pull report and confirm decision. Denial usually is just soft pull. Not sure what happens if you get the waiting message as opposed to instant decision.
I received a CLI on my BCE in November and was approved for a Hilton Honors Surpass five months later. The Hilton card actually has a much higher CL than what I have on the BCE, $10K vs $3K.
I plan on requesting a CLI on the BCE at the six month mark, which will be 30 days after I received the Hilton card.
My only question is when approved for the Blue, Does that then cancel out the ability to get the CLI on the Costco card?
I know the HP and SP
While my example above was a CLI first, then new app, there doesn't appear to be a brightline limit on one or the other every six months. I personally can't test that until I ask for a CLI on the BCE at the end of May.
