Amex CLI ?

After 61 days with a new Amex, we can ask for a CLI of up to 3x the current CL. My question is, is the INCREASE 3x or the new TOTAL CL 3x?

In other words, my current CL is $2k. So, in April, will I be asking for a $6000 INCREASE (which would mean new CL of $8000) or a NEW CL of $6000 (which would be a $4000 increase)?

Thanks! Smiley Happy

Re: Amex CLI ?

New total CL is 3x, i.e. from $2000 to $6000.

Keep in mind they won't necessarily give you the full amount you're asking for - they may give you nothing or a counteroffer.

Of course if you have the credit/income to support it I don't see why they wouldn't entertain a larger CLI, although you may need to show proof of income, etc.

Thanks! I know it's not a guarantee. I just want to know what is possible. Smiley Happy

Re: Amex CLI ?

My friend just did a CLI from 2000 to 6000.  6000 was the amount he asked for. Maybe he should have made it higher so the counter would be higher too?

It's based on total available credit (across all cards) to income. I can't get one too even though my utilization is 4-5% most of the time, since my total credit almost = my income.

Ironically, I applied for a 2nd Amex and it was approved with a much higher starting CL, effectively tripling my available credit with Amex but spread across 2 cards. So go figure! Smiley Happy
