I vaguely remember seeing somethings about Amex not liking you to carry a balance? I'm not for sure of this so really asking. I know every lender is different but if they are issuing a credit card vs one of their charge cards I wouldn't understand this.
I have never had any issues with my bcp and having an balance report .

Yeah it's a myth passed down from prehistoric times, when Amex was associated with primarily charge cards. Amex, however, now issues revolving credit cards like any other credti card, and even widely advertises that you can carry a balance. So carry away
It's YMMV. You can carry a balance and have an issue as some have experienced or you can carry a balance with absolutely no issue.

Well then. ... .. They are so confusing.
My opinion is if you have multiple credit cards why bother risking it and finding out lol. I Before my App spree I have used my Amex BCE and Discover it card for 99.99% of my purchases and have decided to hold a balance on my discover and juast PIF my Amex card even when they both have a 0% apr promo

Is this based on definitive cases where carrying a balance was the only factor causing problems? Or from cases where people with other red flag behavior happened to be carrying a balance and assumed that was the problem? It's one thing to run up a huge balance immediately, and let it hang there making the minimum payment. That would trigger review by most lenders. Let's not perpetuate the idea that Amex revolvers are somehow charge cards in disguise.

Red flag behavior was associated from what I remember. I don't believe specifics were provided regarding the payment amount made but I remember that the balance was carried throughout the introductory period.
Personally, I allow my balance to report on my statement and then PIF. Never been an issue with Amex but my charges tend to not exceed $200/mo.
Amex has penalized people for carrying a balance, even during an intro period. I think what triggers it is making minimum payments. You should make at least three times the minimum in payments to fly under the radar. Utilization is a factor as well...don't go over 30 percent if you can.
It is better to leave balances on other cards. Credit union cards are probably your best option.
