Re: Amex Charge Card Prestige is OVER

Well, look-y, look-y.  I found something to agree with ddd on.  There is definitely confusion in this discussion.  Some people are confusing Old Amex's more stringent lending standards with prestige.

To repeat the definition of prestige from Merriam Webster Dictionary--

1 : standing or estimation in the eyes of people : weight or credit in general opinion
2 : commanding position in people's minds

A lending standard is an objective measure (either you qualify or you don't) whereas prestige is a subjective concept (varies from person to person).

I agree ducky.  Motive has been revealed!

I understand what you are saying, (I think, lol). That the high dollar amount and high credit scores that AMEX used to require gave it a certain prestige that it is lacking today by not requiring those same things.

My point was, that while you (any many others) may have considered it to be that way at one time, many other people simply view AMEX then and now as simply a credit (or charge) card. In other words, an item that has no prestige factor or value.

BTW, I hope this doesn't come across as inflammatory! It isn't meant to, by any means.

No THIS IS PERFECT!!!!!

This ia what I have been saying for 100 threads. The people in the NOW are taking it personal, but you just said what have been saying. And you're right if you dont care than who cares like me. I could care less, the cards just work for me.
