Amex Charge Card Reset?

Hey, everyone. I've been away from the forums for quite sometime to remain in the garden. I'm sure I've missed a countless amout of gravey trains lol. But anyways, on to my question. I've been using my Amex green card a lot lately and recently I hit my "limit" with them. The last chatge I tried to make with them didn't go through and the sent me an email saying it was a little more than I usually spend so that's why it didn't go through. My statement just closed on the 29th, I wanted to ask once my statement cuts does the "limit" on the charge card reset as well? By this I mean, can I continue to charge after my statement is cut because this would be the beginning of a new month (statement) of charges?

I believe at any given time you can go on your online account and see what's available to you to charge (I can't think of what they call it.) Or maybe it's just that you can go on and check if a charge of $xxx will be approved.

It's not going to rest at all until your pay your bill and not based on the issuance of your statement.  That 'limit' is all they are willing to let your charge without payment at this period of time.

I would imagine if you bumped their ceiling for you and pay it on time, the ceiling will likely be raised a bit....

+1 to this. AMEX won't let you charge until this is paid down below your "spending power."  Once you make a paymentonline, even before it actually processes to AMEX and posts, they will let you begin using it again. Hope this helps.

Yep. once you pay it will reset. I can't imagine how low your setting to be to where you maxed out the spending level. Im sure if you paid a handsome amount that amount would be usable again. as you do it more often your spending ability will go up. Mine changes all the time. Sometimes. 10k on my charge card. other times 4k. I Use it as it keeps me honest from carrying balances on my other cards. Just paid it off and will not use it again for a couple of months now.

Thanks for the info everyone. I've never used the "check spending limit" tool until just now to find out what more I could spend, which is $500. The last thing I tried to charge was for $600 and didn't go through. At the time my balance was $6,018. So my ceiling is $6.5k give or take. I hope my ceiling in increased when I pay it in a couple days.

The more you use the card and show you can pay it your ceiling should go up, but it also can go down as well depending on usage pattern of the card meaning if you slow down using near as much or your spending along with other factors
