Amex Charge Card secured by a CD / Do they still offer it?

I am reviving this old thread from 2011 about Amex offering a charge card that is secured by a CD. I believe it was a pilot program. Im wondering if anyone took the offer and if they still offer it.

Re: Amex Card secured by a CD / Do they still offer it?

I have an amex card secured by a two year CD through USAA. I opened this account in May so I'm sure they still offer the program. It's a great card if you really want an AMEX!

I believe the OP was talking about a secured Amex from Centurion Bank (real Amex) as opposed to a co branded Amex like USAA. Centurion Bank Amex currently offeres no secured products and has not for a while.

Yes they still offer it. I applied for their green card and received a denial letter with a counter offer to deposit 10k into a savings account.

Interesting. I guess it's just not advertised like Discover it secured is only a counter. I know they used to offer a secured optima but did away with it years ago. My only question is? Who would put up 10K for a Amex Green? Not even remotely worth it.

I think alot of people would. Also, the secured program applies to all levels of the charge card, gold, platinum, etc.
