in theory contactless is less secure, its just rfid or nfc /similar tech so in theory it can be skimmed if someone was in close proximity, but i would think now the trasmission has some sort of encryption and its not passing the track info as plain txt. awhile back i think all of the majors offered contactless but all it was, was they sent you a sticker w/ the chip embeded in it that you put on your card, i remember discover specifically offering this, and it think i remember someone offering a speedpass that was just a keychain fob that linked to the card you could use, but it might of just been a gas card offering it

NFC is just a type of RFID, and yes it's NFC. It's more secure than the magnetic stripe (which has no security), but arguably a bit less secure than contact chip use. Skimming it is obviously easy-ish, but the concern isn't skimming - it's what can be done with the skimmed data. A skimmed magnetic stripe is very useful, especially one from a non-chip card.
Skimmed contactless data is virtually useless. First, it is not encrypted in any way. Just to make that clear, it bugs me when people say the data on the chip is encrypted, it's not. However, one-time security codes or cryptograms are generated. For magstripe mode contactless, these security codes CAN be pre-played, in theory... but you get one low-value transaction - not too useful. For EMV mode contactless, this cryptogram is generated with an unpredictable number from the terminal and as long as that number really is unpredictable, cannot be pre-played.
To prevent the leakage of personal information, the name field on contactless cards is now populated with a fake name
The account number and expiration date are there as plaintext, but are nearly useless on their own these days.
Thanks for sharing the photos. This feature would be nice to have on my BCE, but I'm not sure I want to play the "order 9 cards" game before they send me the correct one. ![]()

I ordered contactless on my BCE recently and it came correct the first time, give it a shot.

Ok. Why not. I'll give it a shot. Card has been ordered through online chat.

Requested a replacement for contactless card at the start of the week. Got my SPG in mail today. Now to find a place where I can actually use the contactless. Would be pretty cool to actually do so.

Walgreens is a good place to try. They used to not work there but supposedly they fixed their terminals now.
