Unfortunately this is what happens with reward programs.  It starts out great then people over do it and then the CCC has to make changes to protect their profits.  I wonder how many programs would still be around if people didn't try to find that loophole.   Now with the internet as soon as these are found their is a forum that explains how to take advantage of the system.

Oh, I wasn't talking about that side of things ("abuse" in issuer language!).   More "Oh, I will get an extra cup of coffee, as that will help me meet 30", so not doing micro purchases, just buying more stuff than you would otherwise do.   A problem with reward cards in general, but I think this magnifies it, as you have a monthly target to meet, each month.

I would have to look thru mint or somethign to track my spending before i app for this card. To see if its easy for me to reach the 30 swipe cap fairly easily.

With that being said i am probably not going to app for another amex card anytime soon.

I apologize I didn't mean for it to come off like poster was abusing the system like he was doing something illegal.  I more meant how could it be profitable for Amex to continue to do this if everyone was doing the same thing.

I also put my breakfast purchase every morning on my Amex which comes to about $10 dollars.  I do this about 2 to 3 times a week.

Re: Amex ED/ EDP. How are you maximizing your 20-30 transactions?

I just applied for the EDP, and it turns out the 30 swipes have to come from the primary card, then all of the other purchases from the other cards count towards the bonus. However, they did approve me with a $15k CL.

Re: Amex ED/ EDP. How are you maximizing your 20-30 transactions?

Tomorrow I'm moving my CL of my Delta card and closing that one over to the EveryDay card and have started to charge Netflix and myFico scorewatch costs over to that card instead so that will make it easier to fulfill the 20 swipes a month. Feels great to be downsizing a little bit.

Re: Amex ED/ EDP. How are you maximizing your 20-30 transactions?

I asked the rep specifically, and he said that only the primary swipes count for the bonus, but the purchases on the secondary count towards the MR points.

Re: Amex ED/ EDP. How are you maximizing your 20-30 transactions?

I've hit the 20 transaction bonus every month that I have had my ED card, even for the shorter first billing period.

I have my auto insurance, myFICO scorewatch, and iTunes auto-bill billed to the everyday.  I would put more bills on it, but not all of my bills are in US dollars. I buy stuff on eBay frequently... even when I add a bunch of stuff from separate merchants to my cart and seemingly make one payment, it bills individually.  And I often make a stop enroute to work to pick up some small things like food, coffee, or enegy drinks.

If will probably upgrade to the EDP next year, depending on where I am living at the time (I move around a lot).

Re: Amex ED/ EDP. How are you maximizing your 20-30 transactions?

Yeah, I probably use my PRG 40-50 times per month. It's crazy how fast the transactions add up between subscriptions, bills, auto-pay, etc.

I was just looking at my grocery spend and  i do 25+ swipes just for that, so when i do get edp i don't think should have any problem hitting cap.
