The ED card only gets 2X at Supermarkets-that's it.
BCE gets 3X at Supermarkets, 2X at gas stations and department stores.
Right, but the "X" mean different things. And, with lots of 2% everywhere cards, the 2% on BCE isn't that important.

I need a 2% everywhere Card. I have 1.5 and then I have some that are 2 for certain categories but not a 2% all around. Who does that besides Citi DC and certain CU's?
You can eventually PC to the BCP and get 6%, 3%, and 1%

Fidelity has a 2% card.
Cash back card would hold zero interest for me. EveryDay, on the other hand, would give me a no annual fee Membership Rewads card...can't beat that.

As mentioned, Fidelity has a 2% visa, Blispay is another popular around here.
I only keep the card for its offers, the potential to transfer MR points, and it is free. I do not use it. So it does not matter what % rewards it has.
Membership Rewards are FAR more valuable, if used correctly. For example, 60k Delta SkyMiles (1:1 conversion from MR will get you a round-trip ticket to Europe). That could have a value as low as $500, sure. 0.8 cents per mile value. Obviously, cashback would have been better. But it could also be a $1500 ticket it's getting you - making it 2.4 cents per mile. Use your MR for redemptions that you'd buy anyway, but have a very high cash cost relative to their MR cost.
It's a MUCH better card, if you're willing to hunt for those redemptions that save you huge amounts of money.
You're not missing anything. AMEX sponsors NBA on TNT. Watch one game on it. Every AMEX commercial is for the BCE. I think AMEX gave up on ED as well. They pushed it hard when it first came out, but now I feel like they realize it won't be a flagship card.
Personally, I just bought a house. With traveling for work and buying groceries weekly, it made complete sense to get the BCE. Very happy with the limit they gave me as a new customer.
