Hey guys, so last year I got the EDP card with the 20k bonus if I paid the AF back in April. Well, my AF just hit on August 13. How do I still keep the bonus but downgrade? I don't want amex to claw back! Should I wait until Sept or just do it now and not have to pay it? Thanks!
The EDP is a good card, the rewards are worth the AF why are you wanting to drop it?
Are you not using the cash back ?
Not using it enough and not for the cashback, not traveling anytime soon anyway

Clearly the OP has decided it's not worth the AF. Also, it's not a cashback card.

Yes clearly he did after I asked my question but thanks for the reminder.

Just to clarify, you paid the annual fee in April and it's back again in August? What the 20k and upgrade bonus or was it a new card sub?
Yes and the AF posted in August which it was suppose to be this April but maybe covid was strong so they deleted but anyway it was a upgrade offer bonus.

I meant from the context of the original post, you (usually) don't ask about downgrading cards that you feel are useful.

Nope, they decided before asking question.
Question isn't "If", it's "When".
You need to keep the card 12 months for no clawback. When you upgraded you were hit with a prorated fee, and then at your account anniversary year you were hit with the new $95 annual fee. Once the EDP card has been open for 12 months, you can downgrade back to the no fee ED, get a prorated refund, then either hold onto the no fee ED or cancel.
You want to make sure that you downgrade *after* 12 months, but not much after as your annual fee refund is prorated on a per day basis.
