Is a FR something common with Amex? I have a short history and was just instantly approved with them....is it common to be declined at a checkout??
From what I have read here it seems the Amex is just alot more Draconian with them than most. I dont know of any other company that actually demands tax returns. Hopefully after you have undergone one, you are insultated for at least awhile. That's my hope at least. They gave me a phenomenal credit line considering I had only 2 months of history with a $300 crap one, so it at least shows that after they verify income, they open their arms!

It's not at all common, but as said above, much more common with Amex than with other issuers. The reason people talk about it is the much bigger immediate impact. Your accounts get frozen and won't unfreeze until you go through the FR. As this usually involves you sending in a form and Amex waiting to get the transcript from the IRS, this is a minimum of days. If you are abroad without another card to support the spend, this is bad.
