Not to go further off the rails but in the case of gift cards instead of a bonus payment, my company has awarded hundreds of gift cards for various reasons over the years. I got one once for a bike shop in the amount of $600. The next paycheck, taxes were withheld from my check for the amount of the gift card, listed on my stub as a special payout of sorts. As long as the company holds back taxes to account for the value of the cards, there are no pitfalls - the pitfall would be in NOT doing so and just stopping by one’s desk, handing it over, and saying “congrats”...
+1
The Fortune-10 company I used to work for also awarded Amex Gift Checks/"Cheques" at times to management employees, so it's definitely not unheard of.
All of this is neither here nor there for our OP's currrent issue with Amex, though.

Agreed, this vlogger has given a lot of bad information in other videos too.

Right, while Amex may request forms from the IRS, I'm sure they do not view themselves as responsible for policing tax payments (or lack of) by a cardholders employer!

I was just busting stones, I see small businesses do this all the time and don't include them in wages. Just a pet peeve of mine.
It's unfortunate when bad info like this is out there for people to use that may not know any better. A lot of people research to try and educate themselves and you would hope that info provided like this would be solid.
