Well, just when I was thinking of making a complete exit from the Membership Rewards ecosystem, they find a way to pull me back in, LOL.
I figure if I eventually cash-out all my MR points with a Schwab Platinum (which is likely) the 40k points will be worth $500 which effectively covers the AF for the Gold card for two years. I don't really see a reason not to take the upgrade - I'll get to "play" with a Gold card for two years for free.
The only thing that caused me to hesitate was I've had the Gold card before - I actually downgraded last year to the Green that they're offering to upgrade now. I looked (and looked, and looked again) over the fine-print and nothing was said about the bonus not applying to those who had the card before, so I'm hopeful it will work out. It's not the end of the world if it doesn't... as long as I use GrubHub once a month for "Amex Cookies" like I used to do it will come out to the same AF as the Green, anyway.
This isn't an extremely remarkable credit event, but I figured I would post to share that Amex seems to be reaching-out for new business (and to expand existing relationships) once again.
Nice offer @UncleB I received a similar offer on my ZYNC card, but I passed b/c I already have Gold and can't bring myself to closing the unicorn, even if it's $25 AF.
So, I'll word this carefully so it doesn't end up in SG ...are you selecting the RG version?

I didn't ask so you wouldn't move it 😐
Redo!

I'm boring... I went with the 'traditional' gold, which is what I also had last time.
If the bonus goes through I'll definitely keep the Gold for two years, but I'll also definitely downgrade my EDP next January to a ED, since there's a bit of overlap with the multipliers.
Basically I'll undo the exact changes I did last year, ha. (Last year I went ED-->EDP, Gold-->Green)

No worries there... you know me, I can make on-topic discussion on this all night long.
More evidence Amex is loosening up again... my pre-approval for an installment loan is back (and this time for 5.98%) and I also just received an email saying I'm pre-approved for a Cash Magnet with a sign-up bonus of $250 for $2k spend.
(I'm considering the loan - will post in PF about that later - but the Cash Magnet is a 'hard' no... I'm not going to risk messing up my chances at the bonus for the Schwab.)
You're on a [AmEx] roll @UncleB.! Yeah, definitely consider the PL because those can be there in a moment and *poof* the next ...or the APR can significantly change. Plus, that's not a bad APR considering PenFed (or others) may not come close to that rate.
As far as Platinum Schwab, depending on the timing for that next gem, CM can wait for sure. I don't think the CS SUB changes much at all, although there was that one limited time a few years back when targeted offers popped-up for a higher SUB. Although, you know me, sometimes it's hard to resist when AmExcitis kicks in

Nothing worng with staying with the 'traditional' version - still a classic. I only wish the Ameriprise version(s) -- both Platinum + Gold had not been discontinued. I know #firstworldproblems
For targeted upgrades, definitely no worries about not being eligible for the bonus. Definitely a good move not passing on this "Golden opportunity." 🤭 Congrats on the upgrade; now you can not only go back to getting Amex Cookies every month, but you can also find Amex UberEats Cookies, too!

Oooh... I didn't think about that! 🤔
I had just assumed the Uber benefit would go to waste, but I might have to explore my options a bit more! Thanks for the heads-up!
