When I requested the white gold design, I was told that my existing regular gold would be deactivated upon verification of receipt of the new card. I activated the new card and also saw the mobile wallet design changed as well (pretty much right away when I called in for the switch).
Being underwhelmed by the new design once I saw it in hand, I wanted to go back to regular gold, so I tested it out today and the old card worked perfectly fine at the grocery store. Checked for some DP's on this and am seeing mixed experiences on Reddit.
Does anyone know if I can expect my original gold to continue working as it did today, or does Amex have a timed cycle to deactivate prior cards after a few days/weeks? I'd like to have both cards available to use when I want, and don't care about the mobile wallet design, so I don't want to call in to officially change back.
Does you new card has the same expiration date and security code as the old one? If yes, enjoy having both cards
PS: If you a picky person and you may dislike the designs or colors for various reasons, you may add the cards that you dislike to your digital wallet and leave them at home. Keep only the cards that you like in your wallet.
In my experience, AMEX hasn't deactivated "old" cards when I've requested a replacement. If I reported the card lost or stolen then yes I'd expect them to deactivate the old card immediately.
Side note - I still have my Amex Zync, the original "white gold"
@xenon3030 New exp date and security codes, hopefully I can continue using the old card, instead of this new one that looks like it got left in the sun for a week.
Thanks @pizzadude that's what I was hoping for. Cheers to your Zync card!
I like the Rose version. I had the yellow Gold card sometime ago.
In future, they may release cards that can change color by request or without request like chameleon
I like the us b card that lights up.
That was a good start. If there is a large market on this topic, I may do partnership with Amex to make "chameleon-like" credit cards

Your old card will be the correct info until you actually activate your new card. I've sat on old ones for suuuuper long times for various reasons.
