Amex HH to Surpass Upgrade Question

Hello - I've had the no annual fee Hilton Honors card for about 18 months, and today I received an offer to upgrade to the Surpass with 100,000 points after spending $3,000 in three months. Does the amount of points on an upgrade vary much, or i s100K about standard? Looks like its 130,000 for a new card.

Thanks for the input.

I had 2 upgrade offers, 1 from Honors to Surpass, 1 from Surpass to Aspire. Both were for 150k points.

But not everyone gets upgrade offers, and they can be a long time in coming. They are not a given.

To me 100k HH points is worth $400. And the Surpass is IMHO a great card -- actually the best of the 3 Hilton cards. So if $400 and a better card are worth it to pay the $95 annual fee, then it's reasonable to go for it.

But yes it's possible that a 150k offer, worth an additional $200, might come along one of these days.

Re: Amex HH to Surpass Upgrade Question

The 100k pts I believe is the standard when getting an upgrade offer. Though seems to be a few times every year the past few years Hilton/AMEX give out targeted offers for an upgrade worth 150k pts to the Surpass/Aspire depending on which card you have already. If you're in no rush and want to take the chance of getting that higher offer I would wait but again no guarantee you will get it in the future. In that case if the points look good then I would take it with no hit to your reports

Update. I got the 100k upgrade offer today, myself. Upgrading to the Surpass is a no-brainer for me, because I've had all 3 of the personal Hilton cards and found the Surpass to be the best value. But I'm debating whether to go for this one, or hang on and wait for the 150k offer to possibly come around.
