So I just applied for the Amex HHonors card almost 2 months ago. I met the spending criteria for the 40K bonus points which was $750 a month ago and received it immediately. I went back online and saw that I could upgrade to the Surpass card and receive a 50k bonus after spending 3k in 90 days. I thought, wow! I can upgrade, get some more bonus points and if I need to, downgrade next year so I don't have to pay the annual fee. However, when I tried to upgrade it stated the card was not eligible. I wonder if it is because I only had the Hhonors card for only 2 months. Any input for those who attempted this?
I'm pretty sure you will encounter two problems here:
1. You need to have AMEX cards for a certain period before PCing. Not sure what time frame that is. Maybe 12 months.
2. Typically, PCing forfeits all sign up bonuses, including the 50k points and the AF waiving (If that card has it waived for the first year. Can't remember.)
What I saw from the website was an offer to upgrade to the Surpass card and if I qualify, I will receive 50K bonus points after reaching the spending limit. It did not say anything about forfeiting points, and I am willing to pay the annual fee for that extra 50K points. But yes, it may be that I need to have the card for a certain period of time. I don't think this is technically a PC either as its still in the same category, just a different tiered card.
I didn't know they had an upgrade offer. I found another thread here that mentions you need an AMEX for 13 months before it can be PCed to an annual fee card.

Per credit card act, an issuer can't raise your annual fee during the first year.
I called AMEX month's ago and told them to remove the offer for people who have had their account's less than a year. They said they would look into it and never took care of it. When you try to accept the offer it won't work until you have had you account for a year.

beat me to it.... Also if your looking for Hilton points get these two cards.
Bank of America Hawaiian Airlines Visa, or Bank of Hawaii - Hawaiian Airlines Visa. 35k points transfers to 70k Hilton Honors points.
