Are Amex MR transfers to British Airways Avios still instant? And is there still some sort of fee to transfer them? Any way around it?
I'm trying to book an AA-operated award flight on short notice to dodge AA's $75 per person fee.
I'm pretty sure Chase transfers to BA are also instant and have no fee. Is that correct?
I have plenty of both MRs and URs, so that's not a constraint.

Yes but it's usually a pretty poor redemption at 200 BA/250 MR. Only fee is $5.60 + any applicable tax and or fuel surcharges..
Did you verify sAAver avaibility? I'd just book it using UR's if the math makes sense (price? over 1.5cpp? CSR?)

Thanks. I should have said "I may need to book on short notice" as I'm not sure yet if the trip will be necessary. Hence my interest in the speed of the transfer. There is, fortunately and quite surprisingly, lots of sAAver availability.
I may take your suggestion and go with URs. The cash prices are extremely high, so I'd be getting like 2.9 cpp for MRs or 3.6 cpp for URs. Can't go very wrong with either one.
AA miles technically give 2.9 cpp but come with that nasty $75 per person fee. I am tempted to just pay the fee and use up a chunk of my miles. While I was burning easy-to-use TYs my AA mile balance has built up and I find them tricky to redeem.

How are UR's coming up with 3.6cpp? xfer to UA?
For UA you can avoid the $75 close-in fee by booking further out and then changing it to desired date.

Just by transferring URs to BA Avios. The 3.6 UR vs. 2.9 MR disparity is just due to Chase's better transfer ratio and the 0.06 cpp excise tax on MRs.
I'd only be going to LAX or a nearby airport. Short-term cash prices are just extortionate atm.

Ohhhhh, Right!
Yeah. This is also dependent on how fast you earn either. UR bonuses are hard to get due to 5/24.
I ended up just paying the $75 per person late award booking fee and using AA miles
I'll have good uses for MRs and URs in the future, but I couldn't pass on the chance to get 2.9 cpp for tricky-to-use AA miles.
At least AA can be used on AAnytime awards. Avios are harder to use for AA due to only being able to use for sAAver and having to book connecting flights by phone.
