HI. I just got a CLI on my EDP this week. Here was my rationale. I've read its around 24-25k exposure on one card before for you MIGHT get an FR. So just to play it double safe I asked on my 3x CLI day for 23k. Approved. I also have 7.5 on my BCP. So my total exposure is at 30.5k my annual income is 78 which I think is about 38 percent exposure to my income. I've read it's somewhere 30-40% is the happy place. Just my experience so far though. I'm no expert. If your income, profile, spend and payment history justifies what you ask, they will approve.
I think it prob depends on ur spending pattern and i've heard 25k on one card could trigger FR. I dont think its cards combined.
I would just say if u go over 30k limit on a card, be prepared for the possibility of FR.

I have heard the number 34.5k across all amex cards tossed around. I'm right at 34k now. Obviously there are people who get lines above that without amex batting an eye. That being said I am nervous for my amex spg business app that may occur later this summer because I don't want any hassle with amex.

I just meant that OP should assess the situation as to how much credit they can have with a lender. Your income is the first step. Then decide what you're comfortable with as far as credit vs income. Then decide how comfortable you think Amex may be with a certain amount etc.
I wasn't trying to be rude. Just saying they should use their judgement.
+1 Yes, this is exactly what I understood the post to mean. Definetly did not think it was kdm's intention to come across snide or anything of that nature and for what it is worth it didn't come across that way to me at all to begin with.
+1 That wasn't how I picked up on it either. However a statement like "Try using some common sense" would have been completely different-LOL

Helpful answer K.A., but I have one question regarding your statement. Would AMEX say your total exposure is your total credit limits on all cards or only AMEX cards? I.E., I now have 36K avail credit (<1% util) on all cards with a 36K salary. I am worried about asking for my 6 mos. CLI on my Amex card because if they see what my total exposure is, my request might be for naught. But is it is possible that they only judge by my exposure on AMEX which now has 0% utilization and 1,600 CL. Please advise if you can provide any helpful info. Thanks so much. Brian![]()

Yea, don't worry I am right there with you in that department.
Yes I have read that the total exposure across all cards might trigger an FR at 35k. But tons of people have higher and never had a FR.
