Amex Platinum Card

Getting placed as an AU on an Amex Plat Card that was opened in 2000. My goal is to get my own in a a Month or two. Current cards are Amex Delta Platinum (opened 5/2008), NFCU Rewards, NFCU Platinum, NFCU LOC,  Cap One, First Premier (Closing this Year), Corporate Amex which doesnt report. 1 Medical Baddie that Im currently working to get off with HIPPA process. Two 30 day lates in 5 years with last in May 2009. Current AAOA is 3-4 years and Date first card opened was 7 years ago. 0 current inquiries. What im planning to do with PLatinum is:

1. Up AAOA (If they back date me)

2. PIF all my accounts next week, currently 80%+ UTIL

3. App for my own Amex Platinum after CRA's post payments (Scores will all be over 700 when this happens)

Im wondering if this will be a good setup for approval in March. Im kind of scared because In speaking with a CSR a while back, my corporate card hindered my AMEX approvals because my expenses report only pays once a month and has been late 30 days late on several occasions. THis process is with everyone in company not just me. My personal AMEX has never been late and I pay the balance off every three months (low limit). As for the $450 fee, I travel a ton and want the lounge access with companion ticket. Do you think this plan will work? Am I potentially missing something? Just havent seen many people's first "personal" charge card with AMEX be a plat.

Re: Amex Platinum Card

No matter really, even if app the gold rewards or green, will be eligible for an upgrade to Platinum going forward, it will show up on your online acct.

Re: Amex Platinum Card

If your referring to Continental Airlines, then no. Havent flown them in a longtime. Im a star alliance customer. As for apping green then gold card, Im guessing the platinum card wont be available for a few months. Im also wondering with my future credit stat's if my Delta Amex, although being an Amex credit card, will help me jump straight to the platinum bypassing green and gold. Has anyone else heard of this happening.

Re: Amex Platinum Card

All I can share with you is from my personal experience, but it would indicate that there is no progression from green to gold to platinum needed.  I obtained the Costco true earnings card a couple of years ago and 6 months later when I logged in it said I was approved for a platinum card.  I applied and got an instant approval, these are the only Amex cards I have ever had.  I would think that you could get the platinum card just as easily as you could the gold or green.  Again, I'm no expert on Amex but that was my experience and if you already have history with them I would think that you would be able to start with platinum.

Sorry wasn't clear, did not mean to suggest to app green then gold or anything about a required or recommended progression.

The fact is if you are approved for EITHER Green or gold (if you don't feel confident going for the platinum from the outset) it won't be long before you're preapproved for Platinum (with good behaviour.)

Re: Amex Platinum Card

I don't think there is any rhyme or reason for any one person with AMEX charge cards. I was denied for Zync not 2 months ago... Then I receive an RSVP in the mail for Premier Rewards Gold and applied today.... Instant approval. I have never had an AMEX before and as you can see my scores aren't that great.

Re: Amex Platinum Card

SB and RHAL, thanks for your input. Its crazy how AMEX has not rhyme or reason for their doing. Every time Ive app'd with AMEX, the forums have given me great insight on what to expect. Its mind boggling how RHAL was denied for a Zync, then approved 2 months later. Similar thing happened to me back in 2008 with Amex. Hopefully this AU on Platinum for a month, will help me going into march.
