Amex Prequal after CO

I burned Amex back in 2013 on my Zync for $4k and never paid them back.  I have been cleaning up my credit and now have a 684 EX F8 score. I did the prequal and was prequal for the following:

Delta Gold/Platinum/Reserve

Amex Gold

Hilton Surpass/Aspire

I found out last June that I was on the blacklist when I was auto denied and no HP on my EX. At that time the only prequal was Delta Gold.

Any advice on how to move forward?  I have the funds to PIF but it worth it to settle or not pay?

This is my first post (I lurk a lot!) so plz be nice 😅

If you can afford it then pay Amex and you'll be back in their good graces. With out paying CO it is very unlikely you'll get another card from them in the near future.

Is paying back 4K worth it? They have good cards but plenty of other banks have competitive ones too. The only unique ones are some of the travel cards.

I like their 3x CLI and the benefits with travel.  I traveled monthly (not anymore due to Covid) and my current travel card isn't cutting it.

The highest probability of success in the relatively short term would be to PIF but that's no guarantee.

I get that your current travel card doesn't meet your needs but have you investigated other alternatives and also found them lacking?
