So, girl I know has a good but thin credit file (3 CC's, one closed auto and one current auto halfway through) and she was looking for room to improve if possible as she just decided to close her Gold Delta Skymiles as she got hit with the $95 annual fee and didn't want to pay it.
I don't know too much about amex yet as I don't have my foot in the door, but is it worth the time to reopen and possible PC to a card without an annual fee? Card was closed less than two weeks ago, hasn't even updated on her credit report showing closed.

Dunno but she can just call amex and ask them and they will give the answer. Or she could just app for another amex card that would be a better fit if she wants and get a signup bonus and another free year depending on the card.
Will call amex for sure, but figured I'd ask here, i'm more curious about the PC. Kind of sucks that this is the oldest card on record and it's closed.

If she's successful in reopening the account, she can see about having it PC'd to the Hilton HHonors card, which has no annual fee.
Since the card has been closed and (hopefully) reopened I don't know if she would be immediately eligible for a PC or not... just have to try and see what happens.
Heyy,
I actually work for Amex and know the cards.
If she is looking for a an Amex card with no annual fee, there is actually a few. But over all it just really depends on if she is looking for card benefit's, hotel points, airline miles, ect.
The card without a annual fee are
-Blue from American Express
-Amex EveryDay
-Blue Cash
-Hilton HHonors
-Plenti
-Blue Sky
-TrueEarnings Card from Costco
Like I said, all these have different benefits. Just go to Amex's website and look them over.

mrjakecyrus,
Which of those cards specifically would a cardmember be allowed to PC to if they have the Gold Delta Skymiles card like the OP's friend has?
The only PC I've ever read of from the Amex Gold Delta Skymiles card is to the HHonors... possibly they're allowing others now?
Oops! I guess I read the post a little wrong.
Yeah, you are correct. The Hilton HHonors card is the only one.
My bad!

It's all good!
Thanks for confirming what other folks have reported is in fact still applicable!

Closing that old account won't matter until 10 years from now, since closed accounts still factor into AAoA.
It's still worth considering the PC angle, though, since you might avoid opening a new TL that would reduce the AAoA.
However, PC also means missing out on the sizable bonus the HHonors card offers, so it's worth weighing the value of less FICO score impact vs the value of the bonus to decide whether to PC or do a new app.
