If within the next month or so (after I hit the required spend on Gold) I apply for the Platinum will Amex have a problem with two cards back to back?
Not a problem on their end usually. But if you want the sign-up bonuses, that's going to be $7k or so spending requirement within a few months, so you'd have to justify that you will be able to spend that much on the cards and pay them back in full.

Also I applied via my Amex account and haven’t seen a hard pull as of yet...is this for real? No hard pulls for existing members maybe?
Currently Amex may not hard pull existing members for new applications, even if approved. There are still some datapoints showing a hard pull is done, however.
As long as you can hit the spend for both signups you will be fine, would wait til you get the 100k sign up offer though, or go with one of the other plat flavors, you might get a hard pull if do decide to go with one of the branded plats, I have 5 amex and all soft pulls besides first one and when I applied for the Schwab plat they did hp for that
One other point-if you decide to apply for the Platinum, do not cancel your PRG anytime soon after receiving the bonus. You should plan on keeping the card for a year. Amex has cracked down on account holders who cancel cards with AFs soon after receiving the spend bonus. Penalties can include loss of MR points and accounts being shut down.

I just applied and was instantly approved for a targeted Amex offer for a 50k signup bonus for the Gold Rewards Card. Which was great but I’m realizing I may have jumped the gun at such a good signup offer as the Platinum would probably fit my spend better.
My question is this: If within the next month or so (after I hit the required spend on Gold) I apply for the Platinum will Amex have a problem with two cards back to back? Also I applied via my Amex account and haven’t seen a hard pull as of yet...is this for real? No hard pulls for existing members maybe?
If it helps for background ive had a BC Preffered Card for a couple years with a 24k CL. Ficos are good not great, all in the 720-740 range. Thanks!
Per your statement, I'm assuming you CAN meet the spending in one month? is it $2k? I've read about hicups with some people applying for two cards within a month, but again, i got two AMEX cards approved in one night (Delta Platinum & AMEX ED) while eating dinner ![]()
You could give it a try, should be SP if you get denied/approved. If you can meet $2k in one month for PRG, you should be ok spending $5k in 3 months for Platinum. If you really need it now, you could apply for the Ameriprise Platinum (which i did), that comes with the AF waived for the first year as well as up to three AU (metal cards as well), but no bonus comes with the. You WOULD BE eligible for the regular Platinum bonus when you apply/approved after the Ameriprise. This card is good becaue you can test drive it for a year for free. You get all the benefits as the regular Platinum!! But like above said, if you want the regular Platinum, wait for the 100k offer. I have a link which my wife used and worked for the 100k offer using ingcognito. And yes, do not try to close your PRG immediately after getting the bonus, they will nail you! lol. If you find the Platinum works better, you can always downgrade to Green ($95 AF) then close later down the road.
Edit: I applied for the regular Platinum on 3/4 and approved online right away. Next morning on 3/5 called to cancel the card because i wasn't going to be able to get the bonus (SP). Same day on 3/5, applied and appprovd right away for Ameriprise (SP). Charles S. Platinum is great BUT, HP required to open a checking account to be able to apply for it....no thank you ![]()

Also the OP would lose the $100 Airline Gift Card for 2019 if they cancel the PRG now.

Not true
I applied under the link and was approved/confirmed by CSR that i applied for the 100k....canceled the next day as i wasn't going to be eligible for the bonus since i had the product before. You just need to follow the steps as shown.
