I don't know if it's still officially a rule, but if it is, there have been many reports of it not being enforced.

I did the reallocation through the form on the website. I didn't need any human CSR's approval to do it.

Right, there is/was a rule for both cards, the one receiving the increase has to be at least a few months old.    That is very frequently waived, and, as wasCB14 says, we have heard several cases where the donor card requirement was waived as well.

Which is not to say it couldn't be enforced if they wanted to!

Re: Amex Reallocation....How long?

Just for the data point, I moved $10,000 from my SPG to my ED and it showed up instantly.  The ED card was around 3-4 months old.

I moved 23,000. I wonder if higher limits cause a delay.

Re: Amex Reallocation....How long?

I moved $4k from Blue (~15 years old) to my SPG in March when I received it online, then another $4k in April. Both were instant. Could be that there is a higher threshold where it requires authorization of some sort, though.

Re: Amex Reallocation....How long?

Was searching because the same thing happened to me. I was approved for a new card a few days back. Had a $20k EDP. New card approved for $6k. I moved $19k of the old card to the new one. It told me it was approved and would take 15min. Almost immediately the donor card was reduced to $1k. The new card as of this morning, which is either day 4 or day 5, is still not showing. I messaged Amex and someone told me if can take 7 business days. Second chat resulted in them telling me it won’t show until I get the new card and activate it.

Now sure what is going on but Amex is a good company and has been good to me, so I think it will work out but it is nerve wracking for sure. Don’t know why they take the limit from the donor card if they aren’t moving it to the new card yet.

Another point. When I fake like I am going to move limits again the new card is showing a limit of $25k.

For Data Points/reference in case more search as I did, I will update when it Finally goes through.

Re: Amex Reallocation....How long?

Yeah the first time I moved limits they did the same to me.  Took about a week for it to finally show up on the receiver card.

Also the 1 year age rule for moving limits is definitely not a thing.  I've moved limits all over my various accounts, most of which are less than a year old.

Re: Amex Reallocation....How long?

I tried this, took a week to get the denial letter. The donor card must have a minumum CL of $1,000. Oops.
