Amex SPG quick question

Is this one their harder revolvers to get? Can't seem to find too much info on what they are looking for.

Probably gonna hold off on apping for a bit but I'm in the market for a new travel card since BP is axing their 2% rewards program in March.

Any recent baddies on your EX or lates? If not, I say go for it.

Re: Amex SPG quick question

No baddies or lates ever, just a short AAoA at 2.5 years.

I'm on the fence about it b/c I want to let my current Amex age a bit and also have some of my inquiries fall off (8 on EX).

They also recently refused a CLI on my card, the reason being I had sufficient credit across all creditors for my income. Don't know if this automatically means denial for a new card?

Did you app for this card previously and get declined ?  If so what were their stated reasons ?

Re: Amex SPG quick question

Nope, the only Amex I ever applied for I was approved. I wouldn't mind adding a 2nd Amex for the backdating and b/c SPG fits my travel needs. With my current spending, I would just about break even with rewards charging all my non-bonus category purchases on the SPG instead of on my BCE or another card. This is not including any extra points for dollars spent on hotel stays.

I do anticipate traveling more in the future, but as of now I can either bite the bullet and apply or just wait.

When did you received your 1st Amex? It's been 6 months?

As far as the 8 IQs on your EX...are all those IQs were within 6 months? 12 months? or spread over 2yrs?

I apped for my 1st Amex in 2011 and was approved for the SPG....6 months later, I apped for the BCP and was also approved but my starting CL was much higher. I think it has alot to do with my spending pattern. However, I have a total of 3 inquiries within the L2 yrs so YMMV.....GL.

The inquiries are spread over 2 years fairly evenly, with 3 coming in the last 6 months. My BCE is just under a year old.

I would make sure your EX report has no hard iqs in the L6 months than app. If you can hold out til Jan 2013 to app with Amex, the backdating will help your AAoA. Either way, GL.
