I'm more curious on what the average vacation would be for the AverageJoes.
I envision piling into a 14 year old Dodge Caravan for a weekend at some Red Roof Inn. Next to a Hometown Buffet. And a miniature golf course across the street

Lol, my affordability would be to cruze down Isla Verde in the car and look out my window, looking at the RitzCarlton , a luxury drive by, continuing all the way til i got to a Marriot and going in say hello governor, getting back in my car and smelling the salt from the sea all in an hours time. Time of my average life😀

Oh, well then I dub thee ElPromedioJose!
"Average Jose", sorry I'm late chiming in here. An absolute best-case scenario would be what I used to do with 5-night stays during the highest peak times and get 7.5 to 8 cents per Starpoint, which worked out to 2.5 to 2.67 cents per Marriott point. Even with the new rates, it should be possible to get fantastic value. But it will depend on where you want to stay and how many points per night it costs. The 5th night free did not go away, so if you can use that, your points become 25% more valuable in 5-night increments! But honestly, it's usually pretty difficult to get lower than 1 cent per point unless a particular property is on sale or just unusually cheap compared to others in the area. (I'll quite often see Marriott hotels for half the cash price of one of the lower-end Marriott brands like TownePlace Suites or Residence Inn in some cities.)
Alternately, consider some other fun ways to use your points - airline transfers! Moving those Marriott points over to Alaskan Airlines would get you a one-way First Class ticket all the way up to Alaska (or anywhere over here in the lower 48) or Coach ticket to Hawaii or Europe from your area. (All examples on American Airlines booked through Alaskan.) There are so many possibilities! Hop over to DR or St. Kitts?
