Hey gang, couple questions. Today the DW and I got a Costco membership, so tonight I just applied for, and was denied, a True Earnings card. It was weird, an instant denial. When I checked the app status, it only showed that one app, and it said canceled. When I checked the the details, it said it was a duplicate app so they canceled it and that they had declined my original app. But, I never applied for this card before, last amex card I applied for was about a month ago. It was for the BCE and it was declined as well. But they based it off of my January Fico score?? It has improved at least 20 points since then. And it's probably even better now in April. I already have a delta Skymiles card that I got in January. Anyway, on this app I noticed something strange, on employment status, the only choices were full time student, self employed, retired, or other? I picked other because I work full time. Anyway, do you think it's worth trying to recon? How tough is it to get this card? I figured since it's co-branded, it might be easier to get than BCE. Is it a more likely approval in store? And is the some kind of time frame you have to wait for between denials? Thanks gang.
lately this card has been making the board as possibly the easiest amex card to get next to a charge card!
Hmm, there's a big difference between less than one month (31 days I believe) and greater than that; you mention about 1 month, and the cancelled label typically means you applied too early.
If there was a duplicate application for this one card within a short span, hard to say; however, Amex doesn't typically recon and anecdotally they keep a pull for ~60 days at least in the current member case, in your situation that might vary but I somewhat doubt they'd be using a January pull but it's possible.
Admittedly I could be mistaken, I really haven't kept track of Amex's recent policies as I've been mired in the garden for the theoretical mortgage which is unilaterally pushed off for several years at this point.
Is that the rule, 31 days between apps if one is declined? The last app I did (and was declined for) was the BCE card at the beginning of March, and it may not have been 31 days. But that was the first time I ever applied for the true earnings card.

It's any card in the Amex portfolio. If you apply for a Delta, and then 15 days later apply for a Gold charge card as an example, the application will be cancelled.
It's either 30 or 31 days explicitly, but I'm recalling the last information I saw on it which honestly may be out of date at this point.
Costco is such a great store!
I'd call for sure and ask what's up. See if it was the 30 day thing as relevate mentioned and if so ask when you are eligible to apply again. What is your current scores? I'd think 680+ has a greatshot at this card
My EX Fico was 653 last month, waiting for PSECU to report my current Score. It should go up, my EQ fico went from 651 in March to 680 when I just checked it. TU is at 705. I wouldn't doubt it Is the 30 day thing. If so, do I now need to wait another 31 days from this last app that got canceled, or will I be able to apply when I hit the 31 days from the BCE app that was declined in March? Thanks for the help gang, I appreciate it!
i would call. not sure how long the system updates your membership data. With a new membership i would have called it in and done the app live. When you call play dumb and tell them because you just joined Costco you are concerned that the system didn't recognize your membership data and would like someone to look at your app.
