Amex Upgrade Offer from Delta Platinum to Delta Reserve

So, there is currently an offer in my dashboard for upgrade from Delta Platinum to Delta Reserve. 15,000 bonus miles for spending $500. Thoughts?

The $500 spend requirement is very reasonable and moreso given it is for within  six months.

I wouldn't if the primary reason is 15k miles.  Comes nowhere close to the jump in AF.  IF it were something you were already contemplating and magically the offer came along.  You really need to be a frequent Delta flyer to make this card work.

@nccarguy1 That's what I was thinking, I was moreover wondering if it would come with a credit line increase by taking the offer.

I don't believe so.  Because of the AF there is a minimum credit line, $3500-5000 if I remember correctly.  After Discover, Amex has the best reps.  Call them and say that you are contemplating the offer but b/c of the annual fee you would need a CL increase of x.xxx to make sense.  Then ask if the 15k miles is the best offer.  You might be surprised at the response.  I ask for retention offers every 12-24 months and have rarely been turned down.

I havent ever read of an auto CLI after accepting an offer.

Like @nccarguy1  noted, give them a call and ask about all of the numbers.   (If you have a had a increase in the last 90 days, then this part will be a no.)

How long have you had the Delta Platinum? Have you gotten your first companion certificate?

Unless you fly all the time with Delta, the Reserve card only really makes sense long term if you are going to use the companion certificate every year for a long first class flight (for both you and the companion traveller). The Delta and AMEX lounge access is nice, but again, if you aren't travelling a lot with Delta, pricey.

15,000 miles isn't a lot. You can get a lot more miles with an outright application, but see above my thoughts on when this might actually make sense. With more time with the current card, they might up the offer later.

Full disclosure: I got the Reserve again because we will use the companion cert, and the Delta SkyClub some times, and, well, because it's the version with the 747 fuselage Special Edition.

I wouldn't take that offer if I hadn't yet received a signup bonus for the delta reserve. If you upgrade you're ineligible to receive a delta reserve signup bonus in the future.

If you want the reserve, what you can do instead is apply for the reserve and get the signup bonus. You can then downgrade and upgrade your delta cards as you please and collect all of the upgrade bonuses that they offer. Don't downgrade unless you've held the card for at least a year.

Agree with @nccarguy1 @NRB525 and @Credit7 above.  Delta Reserve is not worth even the AF (regardless of Bonus Bait) unless those 3 value propositions work for you.  Pencil it out, lol.  Good luck!
