Amex accepted me?!?! Delta Gold

I don't know but today I couldn't resist the temptation to apply again for a Delta Gold, I read it was easier to get. I applied to the Student Blue 3 days ago and while my fico scores are all between 650-670, I got declined based on about 7 other reasons. So I've paid of all my other cards and closing ones I don't need. And I was going to wait for them all to report zero balances but the urge hit me, and I got approved!!

I still won't believe it until the actual card gets here. I'm just shocked based on the number of reasons I was declined 3 days before. They had me call for address verification, which I think at that point I was already approved anyway, but it seemed like talking to a live person helped too......

Anyway, I still want to get the Blue instead, will it be as easy as just calling them to switch once I receive the Delta Gold card? I hope so.

So, I'm going to have my 3 credit cards, all I need now is a Discover =D. Closing out all my other cards from crappy banks.

Congrats on the card! Just as a general heads-up, it does look like many of the people who have been recently hammered by AmEx did "product changes." They're awfully antsy these days. You might want to seriously think about using the Delta for 6 months, showing them that you're responsible, and then swapping. Smiley Wink

Congrats and very, very careful be.

Just so you realize that AmEx will absolutely soft you AFTER you get a card from them, and if they think that you then went on and got a bunch of additional credit, that card might be gone before you ever see it.

I just picked up a Gold Rewards Plus card a couple of days ago, a month after my app frenzy. Granted, this is a charge card rather than one of their very scary revolvers, but I figured that my scores and reports are as awful now as they're ever going to be. So if they approved me after looking at this steaming mess, there's not anything else I plan to do that could worry them. Just a thought.

Re: Amex accepted me?!?! Delta Gold

Yeah I have no problem using the delta for a few months and asking later, my question is that will they switch the account to the new card or ask me to apply for a new one altogether. I've had US Bank do this with my student visa to a platinum visa. However Cap1 said they can't do this, BoA also said the same thing. So if asking right off the bat means getting a blue I'd rather do it now than later.

Do you all think they'll give me problems later or no? Either way I'm just happy to have an Amex now.

Re: Amex accepted me?!?! Delta Gold

I noticed that after I got a Delta card and made multiple charges and payments they seemed to loosen up a bit and gave me a Clear and a Green.

Did you convert or get a new card altogether?

My understanding is that they're very happy to swap you out, and you keep the history, but I'd feel happier if you could hear from someone who has actually done this. I'm just a reader on this one.

You might want to start a separate thread on this with something like "future AmEx product change" as the title. I know that lots of people have done this in the past, and a specific title might catch their attention. There have been so many AmEx threads recently that some people are starting to curl up in a ball when a new one comes along! Smiley Very Happy
