Amex account question????

Does anyone know if Amex treats all cards as one collective account when you request a CLI, or does it look at the spend you put on each separate card individually when asking for a CLI. I have my 6month 3x coming up and would really like to increase my Aspire from 9300 to 27900, but because we opened up a few other Amex cards since last CLI we have been charging other cards to meet the minimum spend for the the SUBs.

I'm pretty sure it's one increase across all of your cards per 6 months (and 90 days after denials).

Edit: Perhaps I misunderstood your question.  I think that they will decide whether to extend new credit with the amount of credit you already have in mind.  I don't know if there's a hard limit to the amount like Chase apparently has (this might be taken care of by their limit of no more than five revolving credit cards), but it does get factored into the analysis.

Re: Amex account question????

Most likely CLI's are approved or denied based on your Amex internal scores which undoubtly made up of many different things, credit scores, they typically SP you monthly, your payments to AMEX, are they ever late, even a day may put a ding on your internal score, card use accross the board, any unusual purchases, have you paid a known divorce attorney, large or frequent cash advances at casinos. Do you have a history of using 30, 60, or 80 percent of your limit, did you pay in full, more than the minimum payment, etc.

Once you have established a history with American Express, they treat you like the sum of all your credit card limits. It shouldn't matter if you haven't used a card much and asked for a credit limit increase on, it if you have shown a strong history with your other cards.

The same is likely the same with charge cards, but the underwriting is different, because they are pay in full each month, and you don't usually know the internal limit, so using most of your internal credit limit is fine as long as you paid on  time.

Cards: Chase Southwest 20k & CSR 17k & CSP 10k & FNBO 30k Oregon Duck 5k, & AMEX BCP 32.5k & Amex Magnet 15k&amg; Hilton Surpass 7.5k & Delta Gold 12k & Zync NPSL, Fidelity AMEX 17k Commerce5.9k & Cash Forward 7.5k & Sams Club MC 20k, Paypal Extras MC 10k, Paypal Credit 7.25k CapOne Venture 15k, QS 2.5k, QS 750, Amazon 10k, Walmart 10k, Citi Simplicity 18k, Discover IT 23k and a nice stack of store cards.

Re: Amex account question????

Also OP,  if you receive a CLI on 1 Amex card then the the clock resets for all of the cards in that you cannot request another CLI for 6 months.  So you would want to choose the card you'd prefer the CLI on at that time.  Its documented in this thread:

https://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Card-Applications/The-Definitive-Amex-3X-CLI-Guide/td-p/1811...

  • Minimum 6 month since last CLI rule applies across ALL accounts held by an individual and includes both personal & business accounts for the same person. So if CLI was successful on a personal account, no CLI can be approved on all other personal and business accounts for the same person for a period of 6 more months. (Posts 5 and 6 of the AmEx 61 day CLI result: 7-10 day written response thread)
