Hmmm. I was a AU on my wife's Green Card (now closed) and now on her BCP for the last 16 months. I always spend waaay more than she does. For example, on last months statement balance of about $1500, she only spent about $100. And this is typical. I use it for everything, large and small purchases, including McD's, Taco Bell, Kentucky Fried. No problems here yet.
Surely AMEX doesnt consider Starbucks to be 'small' but i guess its the amount but who cares it 's still small amount. Would they rather see a tab for $500 spent at the Platinum Plus Kitten's club?? Or Piggly Wiggly??
Quick question regarding on AU on an AMEX card.
I added a relative of mine to my green AMEX but put a limit on her card. Now, does her AMEX report that limit
or will it still report as a OPEN account without a limit to the bureaus?

I agree with this, plus the other related posts above. So long as it's PIF on time every month, why should they care? They still get their fees from the merchants. If they want to have people use their card, then let them use it however they see fit! (within their exposure limit, of course).

I believe that as a charge card, it still wont report a limit. The limit you have imposed is an 'internal' limit and not imposed on your whole account per say. So I dont belive that AMEX will report it.
@Anonymous wrote:Thanks for the advice. I will be sure to check out what my limit is. That is definitly something I do not want to go over. Hopefully it will be high because weddings are way more expensive then I thought and altho I have the cash saved up, id like to use the card and get some rewards.
I feel for you on that one! The catering cost is KILLING ME!!!!
@sybo40 wrote:Okay, so here's MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE as an AU on my partner's AMEX. About two weeks after he received the card, he added me as an AU. Since I shop more than he does, I used the card more (I think he had only charged about $800 immediately after he received it). Well, I used it for everyday use on almost everything including small purchases like coffee, McDonald's, etc. (rewards hungry) and spent about $2700 about three weeks after I received mine and PIF about two weeks after using it. The following month, I charged $1,400 and he didn't use his at all. About two weeks later, I went online to pay the bill in full and received a "Charging Suspended. Please call....." I immediately called him and told him what happened and they threw him under Financial Review. It was a pain in the ARSE for him AND for me because although I could still pay the bill, we couldn't use the card (lesson learned in realizing the power that these companies have over you in a HEARTBEAT). I went ahead and paid the bill in full (I certainly wasn't going to leave him hanging because we couldn't use the card) and let him handle AMEX. Their reasons for FR: 1) The AU was using and paying the card more than the primary user; and 2) the AU was using the card like a debit card to make small purchases (i.e., Starbuck's McDonald's, etc.)! I didn't think it should matter because if the primary user has provided the AU to use the card and the bill was paid (WELL in advance of the due dates) BY THE AU, everything was cool...NOT! We couldn't use the card for three weeks while he was under. Fortunately, we both have back-up cards and cash and we were STILL AT HOME when all of this happened (I've heard some SERIOUS horror stories about people being miles away from home and out of the country when this has happened to them). Handle your card however you want...just know that someone shared their AU story with you.
OMG I'm afraid I'll have the same problem My fiance is a college student has a very limited income while I am an AU on her zync and I plan on paying everything with it and PIF a few times per week... She's not going to put on it since she doesn't incur the expenses I do but I'll be PIF at least bi-weekly.. I hope we don't go through this same hassle
He has the green card...which is the one I have. He also has the gold card, which arrived about 40 days AFTER the green card AND while he was under F/R.
I KNOW! Was working on a quick trip and they stopped AAAALL my strategy. :-) We've decided not to use ANY AMEX cards for another 60 days to allow some time to pass. Got other stuff to do with my time than worry about who's watching me spend the money they've loaned me.
