Amex and Usage

I have an Amex Gold Charge and Delta Gold Skymiles, does Amex care about the amount of usage on thier cards? Both accounts are somewhat new but backdated to 06..I have a few other cards I am using and paying down, I only use the Amex gold and delta if I can PIF...I once every 3 months enough? Thanks!

Care in what sense?  They certainly won't close your cards if you use them every three months.   Your internal score on the gold won't be the highest, which means that your charging limit won't be as big as it could be, but that may not matter.     Will you still get a CLI if you ask?  Probably, but again maybe not as much as it could be.

All issuers like to see their cards used, and Amex is particularly spend-centric.   So if you only use it infrequently, you are not their best customer, but they may not really impact you much.   I didn't use my Blue Sky for about 4 years, forgot that I had it in fact until I applied for a BCP and they offered to switch it.

So unless you want the highest CLI and charging limits, I wouldn't worry.

Re: Amex and Usage

Yes that was the main concern I had being how spend centric they are, just making sure closing accounts or any other AA..FR? ETC I have charged about 2k on the gold in the 6 months i have had it....I only ask because I have 2 barclaycards and feel pressure to use them once atleast every 3 months to avoid AA, just from what I have read on the boards...

I certainly appreciate your response..

Re: Amex and Usage

Even the smallest usage keeps your NPSL high, my AMEX Zync card gets $14.95 a month put on it, but they still approved my Check Spending...

This Card is APPROVED to spend $20,000 on General Purchases at this time.

that number is close to 25% of my reported income. I think its mostly based on reported income and payment history, don't be late, and make good money and they will happily let you use a lot of money for a month or so.  BTW my high balance ever reported on the card is $820 and I think my highest ever spent on the card in a month is at most $1500 or so.  No I'm not going to charge $20k on the card anytime soon. Its currently sitting in my Safe Deposit box at the bank and won't see the light of day for a  long time.

Cards: Chase Southwest 20k & CSR 17k & CSP 10k & FNBO 30k Oregon Duck 5k, & AMEX BCP 32.5k & Amex Magnet 15k&amg; Hilton Surpass 7.5k & Delta Gold 12k & Zync NPSL, Fidelity AMEX 17k Commerce5.9k & Cash Forward 7.5k & Sams Club MC 20k, Paypal Extras MC 10k, Paypal Credit 7.25k CapOne Venture 15k, QS 2.5k, QS 750, Amazon 10k, Walmart 10k, Citi Simplicity 18k, Discover IT 23k and a nice stack of store cards.
