Don't know any specifics on this, but look at it from their point of view: they probably let Plat cardholders charge a heckuva lot more than they do Green or Zync cardholders.
So I'm not surprised that someone can qualify for one of the lower-down-the-fanciness-list cards than one higher up.
I think once youve been declined you have to wait a month before reapplying. Thats what I was told. When I was waiting outside the gates trying to get in I apped once every 31 days till they let me in.
wow you apped at the gates until
AMEX let you in?? sounds good but how many inq.s did it take and did that mess ur credit report alot (sorry if its a newbie question) did the always pull the same CRA?
Yep, I think they have different criteria as well. My understanding from reading from others and from what I've seen is the order goes Zync, Green, Gold, Platinum. Even when I spoke with a representative, I was told to apply for the Zync as it was the easiest to get.

Taz is right. I forgot about that. When I applied for Zync last month I asked if there was a card that was "easier" to get than the others and the CSR said "The Zync card" in not so many words. Also, I did the pre-approval and Zync, Green and Gold came up but not Gold Premier Rewards, Platinum or Centurion
The 4th time was the charm for me getting in. I apped for zync 3 times in a row and then tried for green on the 4th and got in. They always pulled ex for me. Dont know what the fico was but my fako was around 640 at the time. And the following month I apped for zync and was approved. So for me green was easier.
