Amex backdating is odd and spending ability question.

So I had an old Amex Blue card opened in 2006 which was subsequently charged off and paid and closed. I recently received my Amex Zync and noticed that my card said Member Since '11 but my online account says Member Since '06. Is it possible the card was printed before they linked it? Im a bit confused. Also, I was one of the people who was issued the Zync with a $500 limit imposed on the card. I was wondering when would be an appropriate time to request an increase in spending ability?

Thanks!

If your account online says member since '06, that is likely what is going to show up on your credit report.  The date on the card doesn't really mean anything.  You could call them and ask them to issue you a new card if you wanted the card to say the correct member since date.  However, I might not mess with it.  My understanding from speaking with CSRs is that they will not backdate if your previous account was charged off or went into collections.  Maybe the CSR was misinformed, but if that is the case, you slipped through and I'd just keep the card with the wrong date as all that matters is what is on your credit report.

Don't have any insight into your other question about Zync spending limit.

Thanks, I didnt want to push it with the member since date, I was just curious. I have worked really hard and my member since date is not as important to me as re-establishing all my credit! I may call AMEX about the spending limit just to ask.

Re: Amex backdating is odd and spending ability question.

I was an AU on my husbands two Amex cards back in 05 and both were PIF charge offs. In December I was approved for Zync also my card has member since 2010, but online shows 2005. I also was approved for the Costco Amex in Jan that card does show member since 2005, and both cards are finally reporting on my reports in good standing since 2005 which is great. My husband also was approved in Dec and it was bacdated to 05 despite the charge offs. In regards to the spending limit do not ask! In just having the Zync for almost 3 months now I can tell you Amex needs to re-establish a relationship and spending habits first. Some advice use it, and even before the statement closes pay it! In the first 2 months with the card I have used it heavily anywhere from 1500-2500, but paid most of it prior to the statement closing date. This last time I had 1900 on it, and figured I pay it next week (statement closes 2nd), and I not only received an email but a call from Amex asking for payment or they would suspend all of my cards until PIF! I paid half at the time, and will pay the rest this week. Amex explained they want to see 6 months of payment history and will then basically not do this again. Sorry long explanation but wanted to share my input.
