Amex bonus withheld... then credited!

A few months back I got the Delta Gold Business card with the 60k mile offer. I met the spend but Amex decided to not credit the bonus because of my history. Some of you may remember me posting about this.

I’m pretty sure what put me on the naughty list was cancelling my 12 month old Hilton Ascend not long after I got the Delta card. Since then I’ve gotten the pop up window saying I’m ineligible for bonuses. Fair play I guess. I’m a churner. But I was pretty miffed that they were holding back a bonus I’d already gotten approved for.

Well I looked at my balance today and saw that 60k miles was added to my account on 3/10!

So what happened between then and now?

Well for starters my gold card has been on heavy rotation. I’m putting over $1k per month on that.

Also I apped the BBP. I clicked through the popup so no referral bonus. However I still got 15 months at 0% which was nice.

And I just apped the NAF Hilton card. Again clicked through the popup. I didn’t care about missing the bonus since I’d already had this card before anyway. My plan had been to get the Hilton Business but since I can’t get the bonus I’m just getting the NAF card back so I can earn points on some upcoming stays.

The Hilton card was opened on 3/10, the same day I finally got my Delta bonus. I don’t think that is a coincidence.

I’m at 2/90 and at 5 revolvers so I won’t be opening another Amex anytime soon. I am kinda curious if I’m off the naughty list now though.

One thing is for sure, I will absolutely wait for the AF to post before cancelling that Delta card.

Anyway just thought I’d share the DP.

It looks like you are part of the 3/10 group that got bonuses that had previously been denied:  https://www.doctorofcredit.com/american-express-signup-bonuses-which-were-previously-denied-are-now-...

I really hope they are starting to get things settled... if they're going to have the 'pop-up' it needs to be reliable, as in if you don't get it you should get the bonus.

Congrats on getting the bonus.

Why would you plan on closing the Delta Gold? Two Delta round trips per year easily uses bag fee credit to offset the AF.

Re: Amex bonus withheld... then credited!

Meh... checked bags are not much value for me. I like to check my bag on Southwest because it means you can get a better seat. And they let you do it for free. With Delta I have a seat assignment so I’d rather just carry on and avoid the risk of my bag getting lost.

I really just got it for the bonus. It’s not a keeper card for me. I already get 3 MR per dollar on airfare with the gold card so I don’t have much of a use case anymore for the Delta card. Except I guess discounted drinks on the plane.

I will keep it around though just to make sure they don’t claw back that bonus.
