Amex cardmember app question

Just to confirm, if you're currently an Amex cardmember they will soft you for a new application if its rejected. Only becomes hard when its approved?

Yes, supposely this is true. But its better to assume YMMV when it comes to hard or soft pulls. Someone said it before...expect a hard, and be greatful when its a soft.

I've seen that mentioned on this board, but so as not to get my feelings hurt...I would assume ALL requests for credit could mean a hard pull.

This is what I have experienced.   Hopefully it would work the same for you, but with AMEX you never know.

Re: Amex cardmember app question

I have the Zync and just called and asked if I applied for a credit card with being a charge card cardmember will it be a hard or a soft pull. The representative told me any new application would result in a hard.

Re: Amex cardmember app question

If the application is approved then yes, it will be a hard inquiry.

If the application is denied then no, it will be a soft inquiry.

This is my experience, others have had similar results.   Also, many CSR are very uninformed and don't know the difference between the two.

Maybe this is why some people only have 1 inq when they app for more than 1 Amex on the same day. Once they have been approved for the first card, the second one would be a SP. ???
