If you close out an Amex charge card, it will report, for 10 years. My questions is, will you see any difference in your credit report? I know when you close a regular credit card, yu loose the utilization, but charge cards dont report a limit. My fried wants to close out his green and get a gold prg. He said he has had his green card since 2005, so wants to know if it will still help his AAOA even when closed. Also if he did a PC to the gold would he keep the same acc #? He dose not want to PC, if the green will just report as the gold. He wants to add to his AAOA, by getting the gold and haveing the green still report.
That seems like a really roundabout way to do things, and in 10 years the green would fall off anyway. IMO he should PC to the gold [and yes it will be the same account], and then get a no AF card like the BCE if he wants to boost his score.

If all he wants to do is help his AAoA then by all means app for the PRG, it'll backdate and you'll have two 9 year old accounts.

Not roundabout at all. That's precisely the benefit of backdating.

First quote above answers that question. If it's reporting it's factoring into AAoA.

Right, unlike most issuers, *new* apps are generally better (sign-up bonus, new backdating, reset the 12 month bonus eligibility on business cards) for Amex than PC'ing.
