i was at a ta petro in Connecticut where I live and I dropped My card. At 2 am I got a phone call from Amex fraud department saying 10 charges were attempted thought ct and mass but only 2 were approved. Immediately account closing and overnight card issued. I feel so violated though. I have made an appointment with two gas station owners to see camera footage at the exact time the card was swiped. I know it was a truck driver and I'm going to find that SOB. amex was actually surprised I'm being proactive. I don't like getting got

Last year I bought a brand new htc one phone on 2 year contract which cost several hundred dollars without contract. I was in the park and it fell off my bike as I was going down a hill. Some punks behind me must have saw the phone fall off and grabbed it and ran into the woods with it. I know this because I had the GPS tracker running and could see where they went and the exact time and speed until they shut it off. I cancelled the phone so they could not use the services, but now I am stuck using a 2 and a half year old phone, because to get a new one would require paying full retail which I just can't take the hit on right now. I imagine that you feel similiar to the way I did. Its such a horrible feeling.

Make sure they save a copy of that video because some of them record over. Obviously you will want to see the driver, but also look at the vehicle for markings on the side as well as the plates. If it is a truck driver then the truck company will know for a fact who was running that route at the time. With that information you could file a report with the police department for the town it occured in. If its a highway rest area it may be covered by the stateys, which is even better since they have more resources than the local departments.
Christmas day, I received two phone calls from amex. When I returned their calls, I was informed that my prg had been used twice at a Minnesota Best Buy. The first charge, for $1727 went through. The second charge, they declined. They are good. They overnighted me a new card, and within 3, days the $1727 had been refunded back to me. I use the card so much, that I have no idea, how, or where they stole my info. Because I still had my card with me, when amex called. And I live in Ca not Mn. Sorry about your card. Good luck.

I've seen this a couple times recently, so it really seems to be on the rise. People are getting credit card information and making forged credit cards and embedding that account information into the strip of the card. Then they go to stores and they buy giftcards etc with the forged card. The transactions go through and then they go cash out their cards etc. They don't need the physical card they need the account number information. They could get it from skimmers at gas stations or hacking companies online and getting into customer databases etc. This is one of the reasons lenders will sometimes call up when you buy a gift card, especially if your not near your home.

I want him to pay for the 127 dollars in gas he stole from Amex. I hate scammers. I will do everything I can to catch him
Why do you care? You aren't out anything other than the time spent waiting on a replacement card. Let the banks/law enforcement do their job.
When my wallet was stolen Amex shipped my card overnight. I didn't have to ask (nor did I think to ask). I was so happy to see it since Dh was out of town and I had no cash no gas in my car. I was very impressed with them. They also asked for all identifying information so they could go after the guy. I don't know that they did. It was a kid at the school where I work.
